Dr. Richard Ekstein

Meet Dr. Ekstein
I am passionate about providing headache relief and adding comfort back in your life. There is no greater joy than helping relieve someone's pain. I am a perfectionist at heart; I believe no matter what task or job is at hand, it’s worth doing exceptionally.
TruDenta® combines all the disciplines I have learned in my advanced education in thorough and holistic platform. Its unique way of putting all aspects of a person’s health together is what interests me the most. It is a wonderful program geared to helping patients because it is easy to understand how and why it can work for them.
Whether a patient is here for headache relief or TMJ therapy, I treat them as I would treat any member of my family: with warm, gentle care, and with a full explanation of the procedures to restore overall health.
Education and Continuing Education
I earned my Doctorate of Dental Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1985. My prosthodontic specialization was completed at Fairleigh Dickenson University’s Prosthodontic Program in 1988. I became board certified in prosthodontics in 2010; only 14 other prosthodontists are certified in New Jersey, and we are among only 700 throughout the United States.
Being an elite prosthodontist has allowed me to work with and learn from the best in the United States. I take approximately 20 to 30 hours of continuing education every year in various subjects to stay current with the newest and best technology. Much of my most recent CE has involved TruDenta, sleep apnea, and TMJ treatment.
Outside the Office
Originally from West Caldwell, New Jersey, I now call Byram my home. I’ve been happily married for 25 years to my wife, Fran, who now works with me. We have two daughters: Amanda teaches English overseas and Aurora attends the University of Connecticut. I’ve been a dog person for my entire life and have one at home and the ones that have passed live on in my heart. When I’m not in the office I enjoy skiing and restoring classic cars.
In the Community
Our office was the first to offer day-of free dental care to those in need in our community. The event was announced in the local papers and the response was overwhelming. Helping those who came was very satisfying for me and the staff who donated their time. It was incredible to see how lives were changed with a restored smile.
